Day 1: Nairobi to Old Moses Hut
Begin with an early morning pick up from the airport or hotel for your departure from Nairobi via shuttle, led by an expert mountain guide. Travel to the Sirimon Park Gate, where your trek officially begins. After completing park entry formalities, embark on a scenic 5-hour hike to Old Moses Camp (3,330m). Along the way, enjoy a lunch break amidst the stunning landscapes of Mount Kenya National Park. Arrive at Old Moses Hut in the late afternoon. Have your dinner and a restful night to get you ready and energized for the next day hike.
Day 2: Old Moses Hut to Shipton's Hut
Today is a full day of trekking that begins with an early breakfast. Follow the trail through Mackinder’s Valley, with awe-inspiring views of the mountain’s flora and fauna. This trek takes approximately 6-7 hours, leading you to Shipton Camp (4,200m). Enjoy lunch along the way and spend the evening with dinner and accommodation at Shipton Hut, where you can take in the serene alpine environment.
Day 3: Acclimatization at Shipton's Hut
To avoid altitude sickness, altitude acclimatization is crucial. Dedicate this day to acclimatizing to the high altitude, a crucial step for your upcoming summit attempt. Explore the surrounding area with short hikes to improve your physical readiness while marveling at the rugged beauty of Mount Kenya’s landscape. Meals and accommodation are provided at Shipton Hut.
Day 4: Shipton Hut to Lenana Summit, Mintos Hut, Chogoria Hut
Today we aim for the summit. Start the day early, ascending to Point Lenana (4,985m) in the pre-dawn hours to catch the breathtaking sunrise and panoramic views of Africa’s iconic landmarks, including Mt. Kilimanjaro. After celebrating your summit, descend to Mintos (4,250m) for breakfast and continue to Road-head for lunch. The day’s trek ends at Chogoria Hut, where you’ll enjoy dinner and rest overnight.
Day 5: Chogoria Hut to Nairobi
Conclude your adventure with a morning hike to Chogoria Gate and onward to Chogoria Town. Enjoy a hearty lunch before embarking on your transfer back to Nairobi. Reflect on your extraordinary 5-day Mt. Kenya journey as you’re dropped off at your hotel or residence in the late afternoon. An optional Jeep ride from Chogoria Hut to the park gate can be arranged at an additional cost shared among participants.
