Tours details

Day 1 – Nairobi to Saruni Rhino

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, a short drive will take you to Wilson Airport, where you will board a light aircraft flight to Samburu (NB: Luggage allowance 15kg PP preferably in a soft bag)

At Samburu airstrip, a guide and a 4WD safari vehicle will be waiting for you.

Arrive at the camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon, join your guide for a thrilling game drive inside the Rhino Sanctuary, where you will have the opportunity to see several black Rhinos and spot Loijipu the orphaned Rhino who was abandoned by his mother at birth.

The rangers of Sera and Reteti have been his family for the past 4 years. Alongside these endangered species, you will encounter a variety of other wildlife and birds.

Experience the magic of Africa with a sunset sundowner at a scenic spot, sipping your well-deserved drink. Conclude the day with a lantern-lit bush dinner in the idyllic setting of a dry river bed, surrounded by the symphony of the night sounds.

Set out on an early morning adventure with a picnic breakfast, as you explore the remote area hike to Lontopi Hill inside the Rhino sanctuary or head to the Reteti Elephant sanctuary in the nearby Namunyak Conservancy (Reteti Sanctuary at additional cost and advance booking required). This is a community owned and run wildlife sanctuary where you will witness the true power of compassion as orphaned and injured elephants find refuge and care.

Marvel at breathtaking views, discover hidden caves, and immerse yourself in the wilderness. Combine this hike with a game drive to catch a glimpse of the wildlife you might have missed on the previous day’s safari. You might spot the Samburu Five, including the Somali Ostrict, Grevy’s Zebras, Beisa Oryx, Gerenuk, and Reticulated Giraffe. Return to the Camp and unwind with a refreshing dip in the natural rock infinity pool, overlooking the dry river bed, while playful monkeys entertain nearby. Indulge in a delicious lunch at Swara House, offering breath-taking views of a frequented waterhole.

As the day draws to a close, relish a memorable Bush “lugga” dinner under the star-lit African skies before heading to bed for your last night in the remote wilderness of Kenya’s northern frontier.

Visit the Rhino sanctuary on the way to the airstrip. Transfer to the Jomo Kenyatta international airport.

      Our Reviews

Our travellers admire the personalized attention, expert knowledge, and unforgettable experiences that make every journey with Elwama Tours one to behold.

It was my first time travelling to Kenya and going on an African wildlife safari. Elizabeth from Elwama Tours was very responsive, knowledgeable, friendly, easy to communicate with and could answer all the questions I had as a solo traveler. She arranged a two-night safari tour for me in the beautiful Amboseli National Park, including the transportation from Nairobi to the park and back. She was also able to arrange everything to meet my needs, such as travelling by train from Nairobi to Emali instead of by car. Everything was taken care of and went very smoothly thanks to her tips and planning. I strongly recommend working with Elwama Tours for anyone who wishes to travel in Kenya.

Our 5 days holiday in Kenya was just wonderful! We had an amazing safari well organized and planned by Elwama Tours; and our guide Musyoka was absolutely fantastic. During the safari, we saw a wide variety of wildlife including the Big Five and even spotted a leopard in Amboseli, a rarity! Our guide made our experience extra special with knowledgeable insights and tips all done in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend Elwama Tours to anyone who wants to visit Kenya. Their passion and dedication to clients make the adventure even more memorable!

Our private tour guide, Stephen, was fantastic. We thoroughly enjoyed the safari at Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru, and Amboseli National Parks and learned a lot about wildlife and more. Stephen is exceptionally knowledgeable about the parks and animals, along with the history and culture of Kenya and can explain things in a very interesting and engaging way. We felt very well taken of and the planning was impeccable. We highly recommend Stephen and Elwama Tours for Kenya safaris!
